EL Program Strengthens Language, Cultural Skills of Madison's Diverse Student Body

Madison City Schools celebrated the end of the EL (English Learners) program on Friday at Madison Elementary.
Schools Superintendent Robby Parker, Assistant Superintendent Eric Terrell and board of education members came to meet students, teachers and parents and see first-hand what students learned.

The celebration culminated in song and a pot luck lunch of an international fare.

The program targets EL students with academic and language needs, helping them to advoid summer learning loss as they strengthen their language and cultural awareness skills. Nearly 100 kids participated.

Madison City Schools is a very diverse school system with more than 50 languages spoken at homes throughout the district.
